Jamboree I

Saline's home course at Mill Pond Park with alumni, family, friends, and a picture-perfect day created an idyllic setting for the gathering of ten teams to toe the line and test their mettle at the league debut of the 2008 CC season. The course was daunting for some and an incredible challenge for everyone. Not a "PR" kind of place but that doesn't dampen the warrior spirit of our runners ~ it ignites it. The Ann Arbor News stated, "The Hornets dominated the girls race at the SEC Jamboree. " The Hornets won with 34 points followed in a distant 2nd place by Huron and Dexter with a tie-breaker at 68 points each. The 4th place team was Temperance Bedford with a score of 108; 5th place went to Pioneer with 111 points; 6th to Tecumseh, 142; 7th place to Chelsea, 153; 8th place to Skyline who made their inaugural appearance as the newest school to join the SEC with a score of 252; the 9th place went to Lincoln with 274; and Adrian rounded out the 10 teams with 286 points.

Alex Leptich and Kate Carter finished 1-2 for the Hornets clocking stellar times of 19:55 and 20:20 respectively, according to local reports. Rachel Jackson was 7th in 20:48 and Erin Dowling rounded out the top four places with a 20:51 clocking. Coach Smith monitored the event from his mother's hospital room and was proud of their achievement.

The JV race was exciting as well. Meghan McGregor is steadily building strength and speed as represented by her 2nd place overall finish time of 21:45 for Saline's first spot. Regan Johnston came roaring in for 3rd overall in 21:55 and Katie Colosimo continues to show impressive talent with an 11th overall finish in 23:09.

They ran with heart and it is the heart that makes it great.
