Who Goes to Meets?

While there is only one track & field team, not every athlete will participate in every competition. This can be confusing to athletes and parents. Each athlete will belong to one of three levels within the team:

Varsity: Our very best athletes in an event area: The "first-string." This is typically our top three in any field event and the top four to eight in each of the three main running groups (sprints, distance, and hurdles). The number of varsity athletes we can take to a competition depends on the set-up of the meet and the team's goals for the competition.

Varsity Reserve: These athletes are the ones just behind our Varsity athletes. They typically do not score in dual meets, but finish in the top ten of those races. For many invites and relays, our Varsity Reserve team will compete against the varsity athletes from other teams.

Junior Varsity or JV: Any athlete not considered Varsity or Varsity Reserve. Because of limits on how many athletes we can enter in events at some competitions, JV athletes will have limited opportunities to compete on the weekends. There are several races where we can enter our entire JV line-up.

In the schedule above, note that for each competition we have indicated what level of athlete we expect to enter.
Var = Varsity
Var Res = Varsity Reserve
JV = Junior Varsity
ALL = All athletes
Var 9th & 10th = Our top athletes in 9th or 10th grade
