September 2 - Saline finished on the losing end of tonight's Pinckney duel meet. Renberg's overall win and an outstanding performance by Spencer Bishop was not enough, as the Hornet's lost 24 to 33. Notable performances include two sub 19:00 freshmen Dew and DolsenJ, Braun cracking 20:00 for the first time, and Evan Park's first PR in over a year! Complete results and the Race Notes are available on the Results page.. September 1 - The Labor Day Practice Schedule has been added to the Team Calendar. August 30 - Congratulations to Riley McCune and Nick Renberg, who were recognized as our "Outstanding Performers" for the South Lyon Invite! You can meet the entire 2010 Saline Cross Country team on the Roster page. August 28 - Saline's 2010 season started today, with an overall team win in the varsity and reserve races at the South Lyon Invite, hosted at Island Lake Park. Nick Renberg lead the way for Saline, finishing 2nd and producing a HUGE PR. In the reserve race, Jonathan "JP" Parker ran away from the field, easily wiinning in 17:34. Complete results and the Race Notes are available. More pictures will follow. August 26 - Results from the two-day workout are posted on the team pages. It was an unusual one, as half the team did the workout on Wednesday and the other half ran it today. If you need help finding the team pages, please contact Coach Spina. August 25 - Coach Lauchu presented the boys with information on diet and nutrtion today. The presentation included five "habits of healthy eating" that he challenged our athletes to try for just two days. He assured the boys that after just 48 hours of following the habits, they would notice a difference. August 23 - I really enjoyed the chance to meet the families of many of our new runners at tonight's Run-A-Thon. The succesful workout, great support, and endless dinner made for a perfect evening of cross country! I am very thankful for the many parents that made tonight possible; from preparing dishes to organzing the event, our cross country families always make things go so smoothly. Despite their efforts, I think we can agree that the hardest workers were the kids, some of whom ran 16 miles on the day, including the brave souls that managed 7.5 miles of running at Tempo pace or faster. Now, we turn our eyes towards the first competition...South Lyon. August 21 - The first real test of the season is in the books! Congratulations to the twenty-five athletes that finished their first "Cross Country" effort for Saline. Complete results and my Race Notes are available. Directions for the 9:30AM run & BBQ at the Leptich's are available. Parents should have already received information on the Run-A-Thon. August 20 - Results from the Three Mile are up! Many of the first miles are estimates, but they are close. If you remember your mile split, email it to Coach Spina and we'll update it. August 18 - Two big team events are coming in the next few days. Friday is the Three Mile Time Trial and Monday we will have the Run-A-Thon and Family Picnic. August 17 - Runner's World is not the greatest magazine, but Coach Takashi did find this gem. August 13 - Athletes cut from soccer that are interested in running cross country may still join us. Visit the "Join the Team" link, complete those steps, and then show-up at practice on Monday. Contact Coach Spina with any questions. August 11 - If you were unable to attend the Parent Meeting, below are links to the documents we reviewed. Please contact Coach Spina with any questions. August 11 - Saline begins the 2010 season with over sixty runners on the roster, including 24 first-year athletes and over a dozen freshmen. These numbers are a good way to help our program remain succesful, but let the fool look at those only. The intangible aspects of comaraderie and mental toughness, those two parts that comprise our entire focus, are what will make Saline great. August 9 - A preseason "Saline CC by the Numbers..." If you missed tonight's meeting and still want to join the team, visit the "Join the Team" link, complete those steps, and bring your forms to conditioning! August 9 - Team Meeting tonight - 7PM in the HS Commons! Be sure to check out all of the links under "Join the Team" and print/complete your forms. Bring those completed forms TONIGHT! Athletes cannot practice without a physical. The physical MUST be dated after April 15, 2010. If you do not have a physical, you may be able to get one at Concentra Urgent Care ( 213-6285, 3131 S. State - in front of Damon's) for $25. August 8 - What an incredible weekend for Saline Cross Country!! On Friday night, about 40 friends and family members showed up for a pasta dinner celebration that lasted several hours. It was great to have time to talk with the alumni and their families. A hearty "Thanks" to Chris Johnson and Susan Zill, who take the lead in organizing this event each year. On Saturday morning, our runners took part in two great events. At 8:30AM, it was the Saline SummerFest 5k, where Nate Martis and Nick Renberg put on quite a show. Congrats to those two for incredible performances. In all, about 15 runners from the high school and middle school teams took part in the race, with many more volunteering to help out. It was a great showcase for our community, as the race finished in front of the newly renovated downtown park. It was also a true "community" event, as many people from the city, business community, schools participated alongside of residents. Later that morning, it was the 7th Annual Alumni Run, which included our LARGEST field ever with a total of 52 finishers (several of which were also part of the SummerFest 5k!!). All of that hard work was followed up with some great snacks, awards, and a few rounds of ultimate frisbee. It was a busy weekend, but undoubtedly a GREAT one! Thank you to the alumni, their families, and our community for making the SummerFest and Alumni Run a success! August 5 - A few important dates to keep in mind... August 3 - Halfway through the last full week of summer conditioning, I cannot help but be excited about the upcoming season. I've been cautiously optomistic with this group, as it appears to be smaller in numbers and it's no secret that most of our top-seven will not be seniors. They've each had lapses as athletes and as teammates, sending me into fits. Needless to say, I'm skilled at finding things to worry about... But over the past few weeks, during visits at camp, conversations on runs, while seeing runners respond during workouts, and chats while sitting alongside the pool, I've seen that these kids are not a liability. They are the very, very bright future of our program. And, while that future has been "year's off" in most discussions, now that test is just a few weeks and months off. I could not say this before, but now I can't help but delight in saying it. They are ready! July 27 - A few things to mark down... July 21 - Today, I headed west and joined the runners at their team camp. As usual, it was a great day filled with games, swimming, and plenty of opportunities to just sit and talk. Of course, there was running too, and if yesterday I was excited to start the season, today I'm ecstatic! "Why the change?" you ask.... As any Saline XC runner knows, Wednesday at camp means "parking lots," and despite the heat, it was a very productive workout. "B group" included quite a few new-comers, but it was Chris Bredernitz that really stood out. He was further up than I think I've ever seen him and the senior "maxed out." It was great to see such a nice kid be so successful! He wasn't alone in having a good workout, as Chris, his veteran friends, and a slew of new guys handled the challenge exceptionally well. "C group" was led by Jim Crowley, who still smelled like Algonquian. Jim has trained with us off-and-on for a few years, but today he looked like a veteran. Without much of a "base," he took charge of his group and led the way. Other notables that really stood-out include Kevin Allport and Brayden Dana, along with a few others. You might think Nate Martis dropping 1:32's on a 4th SET would be the most impressive thing I saw today, but you'd be wrong. You might think David Dolsen mixing it up with Spencer Bishop would be the most impressive thing I saw today, but you'd be wrong. You might think the best part of the workout was Jonathan Parker toughing-out a case of plantar-fasciatis to max-out, or Grant Praschan finishing the workout in our top five, or Hochrein, Gieseker, and Moeller looking comfortable running with the top guys, but you'd be wrong. The most impressive thing I saw today was Ryan Gauche, a freshman, running with our top guys. It was ridiculous. We had one more award to give out, and that went to Alex Lewis in recognition of his great week of camp and great summer of training. He's still goofy, but that kid works hard and the consensus is, the kid is just crazy enough to be good at distance running! July 20 -The clothing order is all set and items are available for online ordering. We have a few T-shirts, a great new polo, and a warm-up jacket that the runners really like, all priced pretty reasonably. Most items are available for immediate delivery, so you do not have to wait until September for your stuff to arrive. That does mean we are limited to the clothing we have on-hand. Hopefully we don't run out of too many things. There are two items that are not immediately available; the Nike shorts and the polo. The shorts should arrive around August 10 and the polos should be here in late July. July 18 - Most of the runners are heading out to camp this week for a few days of adventure and bonding on the shores of Lake Michigan. Those still in town are invited to conditioning, although the schedule will be rather last-minute. Tentatively, we will meet Monday evening (6:30PM) and Tuesday morning (8:30AM) at the MS Track. Considering the potential of the team this fall, I am VERY excited to get the season underway. All athletes interested in being part of the team need to click on the "Join the Team" link on the left. There, you will find a variety of links, forms, and documents that need to be completed before practice begins on August 12. July 16 - I've added results for Nick, who had to do yesterday's workout on his own. It looks like a winter of training has really paid off for Renberg, who averaged 6:24 for three miles when he did the same workout in 2009. July 15 - Today was the first measured workout of the summer, and the results show quite a bit of progress for many of our runners. Matt Dow dropped an impressive 48 seconds per mile over what he ran in 2009! Evan Park also had an impressive day, with his performance placing him among our top five runners. Newcomers Frey, Althaus, and Furey each posted solid times and all were very consistent. You can find results on the team pages. July 14 - I'm working on having the clothing ready for delivery tomorrow (Thursday), but it may not happen. If not, I'll bring it Monday when the campers are loading at the high school. What I do have for sure is a big pile of key lanyards to give away. I'll bring fists full of them to conditioning. July 13 - What a great day of practice!! We accomplished a lot in a single morning, getting in 11 miles of work, followed by a tough lifting session. It's going to be a fun fall! On another note, plans for the 2nd Annual Alumni Pasta Dinner on August 6 are set. A big thanks to the Johnson and Zill families for taking the lead on this again. Friends and families of the alumni are encouraged to attend! June 29 - MHSAA XC Regional Assignments have been announced. Saline will be at the same site as the past two years, but several of the competing teams have changed. Below are the competing teams, with SEC teams bolded... June 28 - A few important dates to note... Tuesday, 6/29 - Last day to order clothing online June 20 - Congratulations to Brian Johnson, Joe Lipa, and Jonathan Moeller, who were recognized as being among the top 5% of Washtenaw County graduates this year. It's impressive to see these young men who can so successfully balance academics and athletics. To be a successful part of Saline High School or Saline Cross Country is impressive; for these three to have been an outstanding and important part of both is incredible. Nice job fella's! June 18 - Conditioning begins this Monday! Looking forward to a great summer of training. We will be using Coach Plagens for our strength training. You can register for his 10:00-11:00 class online. I have already told him that we will not be able to arrive until 10:30 and he is willing to work with us until 11:30. June 15 - Athletes and families can order their clothing via the website through Monday, June 28. Be sure to check out the $3 FAN SHIRT!!! June 14 - Just seven days until summer conditioning begins!!! The summer of 2010 will be a great one, and we hope you will join us. Also, if you are planning on attending camp, you need to submit your forms and information quickly. We have just over one hundred spots, and over half of those are already taken. All necessary forms are available online or from the captains. June 11 - Summer Conditioning is just a few days away! We will begin on Monday, June 21, at 8:30AM. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we will meet at the Middle School track. On Tuesdays, we will meet at the west entrance of the high school If you are thinking about joining cross country, summer conditioning is the BEST way to see if the sport and team are right for you. Also, there will be several evening conditioning sessions added to the calendar. Come back soon for updates. June 9 - Congrats to the distance runners that cleaned-house at the Track & Field Banquet last night. Our runners picked-up the following awards: Most Valuable Distance Runner - Harper June 6 - Results of the State, County, and Conference championships are posted. June 5 - Saline's 4x800 finished 7th in today's D1 State Championships. Each of Saline's runners PR'ed en route to their season best time of 7:53.51. That overall time is a full ten seconds better than anything else they had managed all season! Martis led-off in 1:58.5, Harper moved up to 4th with his 1:58.7, Elms contributed a solid 1:58.6, and Barnett anchored in 1:57.4. Saline was just one of four SEC schools to finish in the top 7 of the race, with Bedford taking the overall win in 7:43.8! June 2 - Forms for camp are posted. Copies will be available at the team meeting tomorrow. May 30 - We want you to be part of our program!! If you want to learn more about Saline Cross Country or need more information about Summer Conditioning, attend our team meeting on Thursday, June 3 at 3:00 in the Varsity Team Rooms. We will go over the summer schedule and talk about our team goals, which will take about half an hour. The team rooms are located between the varsity locker rooms in the high school. Incoming 8th graders interested in joining us DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND, but are welcome to if they would like. If you have questions, contact Coach Spina or a Captain. May 29 - Congratulations to Blake Johnson, who was 29th in the steeplechase at the NCAA Regional Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas yesterday. Blake qualified for the Regional by being the 48th best athlete in the NCAA West in his event. Only the top 48 are invited to compete. That Blake finished just outside of the top half of the field when he was the absolute LAST qualifier for the race, says something about the type of ATHLETE he is. May 23 - The Regional Championships concluded Saturday, with Saline picking up two additional individual qualifiers in the distance events. Nate Martis qualified for the 800, which is the third event he has qualified in! Andrew Harper left his graduation party to race the 3200, where he qualified by time. The final tally...4x800, two milers, an 800 runner, and a 3200 runner. Should be a busy day! May 21 - Today's Regional Championship was rained-out at the end of the girls' 1600. The meet will continue tomorrow, with the first race going off at 2:00. Saline's 4x800 relay of Nate Martis, Andrew Barnett, Matt Elms, and Spencer Bishop qualified for the state finals in 8:03.1. Nate and Andrew also qualified individually in the 1600, running 4:23.7 and 4:26.8 respectively. Joe Lipa and Johnathan Parker finished 6th and 8th, making it four Saline runners in the top 8 of the race. Tomorrow, Spencer, Matt and Nate will attempt to qualify individually in the 800, while Andrew Harper and Nick Renberg will attempt to do the same in the 3200. May 19 - Today, I had the opportunity to meet with the distance runners from the 8th grade track and field team. David Dolsen and Andrew Barnett joined freshmen Matt Elms and Grant Praschan in talking with the young men about the history and future of Saline Cross Country. Given the talent of 8th graders like Ryan, John, and Brian, the future of distance running in Saline is bright. The great news is that, while there are some "big names," there are plenty of others that can keep Saline Cross Country great! I look forward to working with these young men as they take our program to the next step. May 18 - I just received word of a cool race Adrian is hosting this summer. It'll be the Saturday after school lets out and might be a fun way for a few guys to kick-off the summer training season. It's a "team event" and it sounds like fun! May 15 - It appears it is another "down year" for the distance crew, with only nine runners from Saline qualified for the 1600 in the Regional Championships. Saddening... May 8 - Results from the Golden Triangle are posted. May 5 -Entries for Friday's Golden Triangle are ready. May 4 - Results are updated. Saline is up to 8 runners under the "Additional Qualifier" standard for the 1600. Not a bad mark. The question is, what to do with the freshman's time.... It happened... we all saw it...except for the timer. May 2 - Whoops... I'm a terrible coach and kind of slipped-up on the whole winter mileage thing this year. Please make sure your mileage is submitted by THIS THURSDAY. I'll order shirts Friday. My apologies for dropping the ball! May 1 - Results from the Holly 9/10 Invite are posted. Our distance runners took first in the DMR, second in the 4x800 and 4x3200, and helped our sprinters win the Sprint Medley Relay and the 4x400. With all three distance relays from Saline finishing in the top two, we showed off some impressive depth in our youngsters, but by winning just one relay, we also showed that we are not quite as good as we may have imagined. April 30 - Results from the Saline JV Invite are posted. Looking forward to a fun day in Holly!!! April 27 - Results from today are posted. Not a very good showing from the distance crew. A few highlights include a few nice performances in the 3200 (Gardner debuts, Henry & Renberg PR nicely!), Allport breaks 5:00 and Praschan makes varsity standard. April 25 - All results from this weekend are posted. Our A & B group runners learned quite a bit at pioneer, with many posting solid times and great efforts. For many, I was impressed that they RESPONDED to the race and simply competed. At Ypsilanti and Milford, we saw few PR's, but something more important; Consistency. Many of our runners were able to produce near-best efforts several times in a single day. At Milford, that allowed us to produce four wins in the distance-heavy contest. April 20, 10:55PM- Results are posted. I feel like I messed up on varsity points. Let me know if I owe you any. April 17 - Saline won today's invite at Ypsilanti, with the distance runners contributing 36 of the team's points. The Saline boys took first in the 4x800 and DMR. Andrew Harper took first in the 1600, while Croix Jastrow won the exhibition 1600. A combination of sprinters and distance runners finished third in the Mid-Distance Medley, and two distance runners helped our 4x400 to a third-place finish. Complete results from today are posted. April 14 - The line-up for this Saturday's Ypsi-Showers Invite is posted on the team pages. April 13 - Results from today's dual with Bedford are posted on the team pages. April 8 - The line-up for distance runners going to Bedford is posted on the track team page. Because of transportation restrictions, we cannot take the entire team, so we did have to make some choices on who could and who could not go along. We gave a nod to a few guys that have been doing an awesome job in practice. April 5 - Workouts for this week are posted on the team pages. Over break, the team will be meeting to train on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10AM at the Middle School. These practices are optional, but if you are in town, you might as well come out and run with the team!! The line-up for Bedford is nearly finished and will be posted on Wednesday or Friday. April 2 - Results from Wednesday are posted. Our updated events leader list includes our very first Additional Qualifier for the year; Joe Lipa in the 1600! You can also find results from our time trial. March 29 - The boys threw-down in today's workout. Many were "amped-up" in anticipation for the "Joh-Oliverio" workout, but we opted to do some base work instead. Our most ambitious athletes finished the day with 6.5 miles of quality running. Congrats to Bishop, Humphrey, and Dolsen, who have to be our top 800/1600 candidates for "Athlete of the Day," while Park and Harper look to be the contenders in the 3200 group. Complete results are posted on the team pages. FYI - Wednesday, some runners will head to the races at EMU, while the remaining athletes will either participate in a time trial OR complete a workout. Family and friends are welcome to the time trial. Our first even will start around 3:45. March 28 - Under the Team Pages, I have posted results from the first meet of the season, the EMU Huron Invite. March 22 - Results from today are posted. March 20 - A big "Thank You" to all of the runners that were able to help out with the craft show this weekend. We had about 40 of the guys help unload and load the crafters. A highlight for me was watching the reactions of the crafters as they were swarmed with our helpers. Many were pleasantly surprised at how quickly our athletes could unload/load a trailer full of stuff! Nice job fellas', and thanks again for the help. March 18 - Results from today's track workout are posted. March 13 - I guess things went REALLY well for them. Rumor on the street is the boys' swim team won a state championship this afternoon!!! March 13 - It looks like things are going well for our swim team!!! Recent results show quite a few Saline swimmers scoring, including a few events with multiple scorers!!! March 9 - Track begins and Winter Training ends in less than one week and both are great news. With all of the guys that have been out training this winter, I am very excited to get started. I'm also glad to announce that the distance crew will again have an assistant coach this spring! NICE!!! You can meet him Monday. The team also needs some help from the runnerss. The weekend of March 19 and 20, we are working the spring craft show. We need 15+ guys to work each of the three shifts. We are asking each returning runner to sign up for two shifts. Andrew Barnett and David Dolsen will be taking care of sign-ups. You can also email Coach Spina if you can help out. The first shift will be from 4:45-8:00 on Friday evening. Second shift (which starts with donuts!!!) will be 5:45-7:15 on Saturday morning. The third shift will be from 3:15-5:00 on Saturday afternoon. February 27 - Congratulations are in order to the Spirit of Pre 4x800 and DMR teams. Both relays finished 6th at the Indoor State Finals today, earning both groups All-State Honors. The DMR was made up of Joe Lipa, Payton Hardy, Andrew Harper, and Andrew Barnett. In the 4x800, Lipa, Harper, and Barnett teamed-up with Josh Aulisa to run a solid 8:22. For reference, the last time Spirit of Pre broke 8:30 indoors was in 2006. The last time both relays ran as well as they did today was in 2004. February 16 - Over on the team pages, I've updated results and winter mileage. It looks like several of our guys are making some really nice progress towards their winter goals. Barnett has been posting week after week at 50 miles, which boads well for his spring season. With under a month to go before the start of track, the "final push" is on! David Dolsen and I talked about setting some new goals for those guys that have "fallen off the wagon" and others that never got on the wagon. The captains (elect & current), along with some of our sophomores, will be challenging our runners to get out and get their mileage in! I hope our runners have been taking advantage of the mild weather we've been having this winter. The worst is behind us, and even that was not very bad. I hope to see you out there on the roads!!! February 14 - Some notable news from AnnArbor.com this Sunday. First, an "awesome" article featuring RJ Fisher and his brothers competing together. Second, HendrxD picked up recognition as one of the area's top athletes for his last-second three-pointer that won Friday's game vs. Bedford (the recognition only appears in the print edition of the paper). Finally, Brent Clink, who ran for us his freshman year, qualified for Individual Wrestling Regionals and was the area's best finisher at Saturday's District Championships. February 8 - As promised, a scad of new articles are posted in the team pages. February 6 - A few runners from Monroe joined us for water polo this morning. They didn't have enough guys to make it Saline vs. Monroe, which is probably a good thing because Nick & Ian were too good. We're glad they could join us and we hope we'll be able to play them again. February 6 - Blake Johnson is having an incredible season running for Marquette and he continued that trend this weekend at Notre Dame's Meyo Invite. Blake ran an impressive 14:26 for the 5k, finishing 12th overall and just seconds behind his teammate. At right is a video of the race from FloTrack. Speed fans may be interested in watching the fast heat of the men's 1K (or "K" as the college kids call it). Keep your eyes on the Notre Dame kid that starts in alley 1; He makes it interesting... While at ND, I had an opportunity to watch HendrxK do a tempo run (after a recent injury, he's looking healthy again) and afterwards, he took me for a 1/2 campus tour. You'd expect such a school to have outstanding facilities, and if you ever visit, you won't be disappointed. February 5 - I'm heading to Notre Dame today to catch Blake Johnson in the 5,000 at the Meyo Invite. He's been running very well for Marquette University, and this will be the only time this year I'll get to see him race, so it'll be worth the trip. I'll try to keep a photo-album of the trip, which you can follow along with using the picture at the right. February 5 - Congratulations to the 4x800 relay of Lipa, Barnett, Harper, and Martis, which, last night, qualified for the indoor track state finals. The boys ran some solid times on their way to a third place finish. Currently (I think) the Spirit of Pre distance runners have qualified a DMR, 4x800, Lipa in the 1600 and Harper in the 3200. Keep up the great work! February 2 - Water polo this Saturday at 8AM. I know that's really early, but it's water polo and well worth it. See you there! Also, turn in that January mileage. It's nice to be through the worst of winter and on our way to track. Speaking of track, head over to the track website to submit your information and print out your forms. January 28 - I had a chance to talk with Tommy Hunt this evening, and the news was exciting. After ten months of injury, surgery, and another several months of recovery, tonight he reported to me that he has started workouts and ran 43 pain-free miles this week. Considering the difficulties of the past year and a half, that is great news. I know that I am one of many people that look forward to watching a healthy Tommy Hunt racing on track and trail. January 27 - Waterpolo tomorrow (Thursday) - 3:00 at the high school. January 22 - Congratulations to the Saline Swim Team, which won their duel with pioneer today. It was a close meet, with Saline using impressive depth and some outstanding individuals to take the win. A few of the cross country runners were also in attendance, there to support the Hornets. In the end, all left excited about the meet and the sport. Congratulations to swimmers and we look forward to following you through the rest of the season! January 19 - I'm an idiot. The swim team will be racing FRIDAY, not Thursday. That simplifies things in many ways, especially for those that wanted to race on Thursday night at U of M. So, here's the plan... Coach Brunty promised a great meet and a severe lack of seats, so plan on standing. January 16 - The alumni have kicked-off their indoor seasons. Blake Johnson opens with a 8:30.7 3000 at the University of Wisconsin, Joe Hart ran a 4:41 and helped his teams 4x400 at Ohio Northern, and Sam Bender ran a 16:17 Kent. Many of the other alumni had the weekend off and will start their seasons next weekend. January 15 - There will be several team events next week. On Thursday, we'll head to pioneer high school to support Connor, RJ, and the rest of the swim team in their duel with pioneer. Once we have details regarding the meet, we'll make a more formal plan, but tentaviely, plan on meeting in the varsity team rooms around 5:30 for pizza and then car pooling over to pioneer for the races. The next day, we'll play water polo right after school. We have the pool until 5:00, so plan on playing a few games. January 5 - On March 19 & 20, we will be helping with the Spring Craft Show. There will be an early-evening shift on Friday, an early AM shift on Saturday, and an afternoon shift on Saturday. In late February, we will begin asking for sign-ups, and it's hoped that each returning runner can work at least one shift. Please mark those days on your calendar and keep them open. Thanks! January 4 - This Sunday, we are heading up to play waterpolo with the Milford XC team. We will meet at the HS around 2:00, drive to Milford and will arrive by 3:00, and then play until around 5:00. We should be back in Saline around 6:00 or 6:30. We will need drivers, so if you can take your car, that would be great. December 31 - I get teased a lot for biking with the runners. I bet the guy in this video doesn't get teased. I found this video in my favorite blog...The Science of Sport
December 30 - What makes Saline Area Schools so remarkable? The City of Saline seems to believe it is ACT scores and our runners. Next, I'd like to propose changing our fair city's name to Cross Country Town, USA. December 27 - The 2010 Senior Leadership Trip will take place from June 21 thru the 28. The location is still top secret, but it does not involve hotels. December 26 - I cleaned out the cross country archives today, and found some old clothing items that we need to get rid of. Most are DIRT CHEAP! See the link at left.. December 24 - Merry Christmas, or "happy non-denominational winter holiday" for the easily-offended, and "Happy Holidays" to Nic George and all of those that need evidence of a war on Christmas (all though Nic doesn't contend the existence of a war on Christmas...it's just something I like to say to him just for the reaction), and Happy New Year!!! The runners are spending much of their winter-break engrossed in winter fun, like taking pictures of sticks on ice or posing with animals and snowmen. Monday thru Thursday, the runners meet at the Middle School at 10AM to go running. At right is a photo of our winter scavenger hunt winners. Could there be another winter scavenger hunt brewing.... Hope to see you there on Monday!! December 15 - I posted an update on the Team Pages. I'm also glad to say that we will be offering "Winter Running" each weekday over break at 10AM. We'll meet at the Middle School, in the lobby near the indoor track/music rooms. Runners of all ability are welcome to come along and join in the fun. I'd make sure to bring your cell phones in case a scavengar hunt breaks out. We will not be meeting on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Also, keep the following days in mind... December 8 - The Track & Field and Cross Country teams are combining forces to help make a Merry Christmas for three local families. The teams, both boys & girls, are purchasing gifts for several local families that are in need of support this holiday season. On Thursday, December 17, the captains from all four teams will be hosting a "Holiday Party" at Liberty School from 7-9PM The captains will have games, snacks, and movies. To cover the cost of the gifts, the teams are suggesting a $5 donation at the door. Larger donations are also welcome. If you are not able to attend but still want to help out, you can get your donation, made payable to "Saline Area Schools" to a captain or coach before Thursday. Here's a great opportunity for our teams to give back to our community and I hope that every athlete that can will take part. December 4 - Runners are beginning to post their winter mileage and goals for 2009/2010. I have received commitments from six runners, and their mileage/goals are located in the Mileage Database. If you are participating in Winter Cross Country, be sure to submit your November mileage and winter goals. |
